Update: Steve Caballero - 25 years

One of my favourites pro skaters is Steve Cabbalero. His a dragon who skates without limit. His skills and tricks is so slick like a dragon flees thru the air. That Steve. 25 Year of skating here a tribute to Steve.

Speech given at September ASR in San Diego. George honored Steve before the sneak preview of the Making of The Search for Animal Chin before a full house.

“It is my great pleasure and honor to make a special presentation to Steve Caballero, who’s many faceted career is one of the greatest and most endearing stories in skateboarding.
Although this room is filled with unique individuals from our industry, many of whom are famous in their own right, and know full well the extent of CAB’s many talents and experience, I wish to present a brief list of the major facets of Steve’s amazing career for the record. Steve is, First and perhaps above all:

• A World-wide Skateboard Ambassador Par Excellence who deserves the appreciation of the entire industry for his tireless and endless showcasing of skateboarding in such an extremely positive light. An Innovator of some of skateboarding’s most famous tricks like the “Caballerial,” and has provided inspiration for aspiring skaters for 25 years.
• An aggressive skateboard Competitor with enough top place wins to embellish a dozen careers
• A Star of some of skateboarding’s most famous videos, The Bones Brigade Video Shows
• A Skate photographer & video cameraman.
• A Friend to thousands of skaters and industry members all over the world, because he has continuously made friends everywhere he has gone.
• A Pro who is Universally Respected and admired by his peers
• A Talented rock musician and band member with a number of CDs and concerts to his credit
• A well known Collector of pop culture, toys, skateboards, motorcycles, and now, hot rods
• A Moto-Cross rider now riding on the celebrity circuit
• A Fine artist, who already has several exhibits under his belt
• The Loving Father of his beautiful and talented eight year old daughter Kayla

Finally, we come to a feat that spans his entire career, and represents a professional relationship between a company and a star athlete that is unmatched anywhere in our industry. Steve Caballero has been a Professional Skateboarder representing our skateboard company, continuously, for 25 years. This is a feat that not only stands unrivaled in our industry, but is also rare in the world of professional sports, where athletes often move from team to team in a search of greater success or are forced to retire due to injuries.
Thus, for Steve to have excelled so well, rising to the top of his game, persevered so long, serving the sport, the industry and his family, and finally, remained faithful to our company and it’s goals for 25 years, is a truly unique, special, and amazing achievement. So please join me in recognizing and praising the one and only STEVE CABALLERO.
THIS DECK IS: A both a first issue and and reissue of sorts. It is the very first deck graphic we prepared for Steve and although it was introduced as Steve’s first graphic, it wan never released! After all these years Steve has chosen to finally release this graphic in honor of his 25th anniversary and the fact that it was his first graphic.
And so it’s my pleasure to present Steve with this “VERY COLLECTIBLE” LIMITED EDITION, #1 OF 500, STEVE CABALLERO PROFESSIONAL SKATEBOARD Deck. Thank you Steve, YOU RULE and I look forward to working together for years to come.”
